What is Videoconferencing?

Videoconferencing is a way to connect two or more locations together using interactive telecommunication technology. People who are not physically in the same room can see and hear each other using a high speed internet connection, cameras, TV and computer monitors, and microphones. Sharing of presentation materials, such as PowerPoint, enables a high level of interaction and collaboration.

There are different types of videoconferences, including:

  • Point-to-point: one location connects to one other location.
  • Multipoint: connection between three or more locations.
  • Stream: locations watch and listen, but they do not participate.
